Brookiah Bunley, 25, of Bellefontaine, was transported by Bellefontaine EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of possible injuries sustained in a crash Tuesday, Nov. 29.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report she was operating a westbound 2017 Lincoln MKC In the 5900 block of County Road 13 about 5:55 a.m. when she drove off the right side of the road and into a field, striking a tree and overturning. The vehicle came to a final rest on its top in the field.
Damage was heavy to the sport utility vehicle.
The driver was wearing her seat belt, and was cited for failure to control.
• Elijah M. Nitzshe, 18, of Rushsylvania, and his 16-year-old passenger did not report any injuries in a crash about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday.
Deputies report he was operating a westbound 2005 Honda CR-V on State Route 273 near County Road 49 when he went off the right side of the road and then traveled back on the road. The vehicle traveled off the right side again, where it struck a utility pole and a septic tank cover at 3674 W. S.R. 273.
No citations were listed with the crash report. Damage was light to the vehicle.
Driver charged with OVI
Ricki L. Downing, 25, of 119 New Street, Quincy, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs relating to a traffic incident Tuesday.
Deputies responded about 6:50 a.m. to the area of state routes 287 and 245 in reference to a reckless vehicle complaint.
The caller stated a southbound vehicle on County Road 1 near S.R. 287 was traveling at a fast rate of speed and nearly struck another vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign. Then, the caller stated the driver went left of center, traveling off the road and into the ditch.
A West Liberty Police Department officer was first on the scene with the driver, and advised he could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
When deputies arrived, they spoke with the vehicle operator, Downing. They noted that her actions were sporadic and her eyes were constricted and red in appearance. She stated she had taken prescription medication that day, and she denied drinking alcohol.
Downing also told deputies that her vehicle went off the road and struck a tree before coming to rest in the ditch. Deputies noted fresh scratches and mud on her vehicle.
The defendant submitted to field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest without incident. She was transported to the Logan County Jail, where she submitted to a urine test, with results pending. Downing also was cited for operating a vehicle under a non-compliance suspension.
Summons issued for theft
Gage Hadberg, age unavailable, of 11190 Township Road 141, East Liberty, was issued a summons for theft Tuesday.
Deputies responded Tuesday morning to Fields Grocery, 139 S. Main St., West Mansfield, in reference to a shoplifting complaint. The store owner reported that two empty boxes of cold medication had been stashed behind a row of potato chips in the store.
Upon review of video surveillance, the owner found that Saturday, Hadberg could be observed in the video surveillance taking the cold medication and removing them from the boxes. He then reportedly checked out, paying for a bag of chips, but leaving without paying for the medication in his pocket.
Deputies located Hadberg at his residence and issued him the summons.
