Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department are investigating a Tuesday assault, in which Lawrence E. Beair was hit from behind with a 2-by-6 inch board.
Beair approached his sport utility vehicle parked behind his 220 Walker St. residence around 8:45 p.m. and was hit in the back by a thrown board. He fell to the ground and yelled to his girlfriend for help.
He was still on the ground when officers arrived and was transported by a private vehicle to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment.
Beair said he did not see the face of his assailant.

Ankle monitor helps locate
A 15-year-old Bellefontaine boy was captured Tuesday after officers tracked an ankle monitor he wearing as part of a juvenile probation sentence.
Demitri Dick, 540 Hamilton St., was located near the 200 block of Pratt Street around 9:20 p.m. and taken into custody for violating his probation.
He was lodged in the Logan County Juvenile Detention Center.
