Riverside and West Liberty-Salem saw several members of their football teams honored with all-Ohio selections on Monday.
The Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association released its Division VI and VII all-state squads Monday, with four Riverside players earning all-Ohio honors in Division VII and three Tigers receiving all-state accolades in Division VI.
Also, Triad had two all-state honorees in Division VI.
For Riverside, senior running back Warren Shockey and senior offensive lineman Kaleb Schindewolf were named to the Division VII second-team offense.
Senior defensive back Simon Godwin was a third-team all-Ohio selection, while the Pirates’ junior quarterback Myles Platfoot was selected to the honorable mention list.
Shockey capped an impressive prep career by rushing for 1,663 yards in 12 games this fall. He averaged six yards per carry and scored 23 touchdowns.
Shockey went over 200 yards four times. He went for 275 yards against Cincinnati College Prep, 240 yards vs. Indian Lake, 225 against Troy Christian and 202 in a playoff win over Lehman Catholic.
Schindewolf anchored an offensive line that helped the Pirates rush for 2,397 yards.
Godwin was one of many two-way standouts for the Pirates. On defense, he recorded 65 tackles, recovered a fumble and picked off three passes.
In his third year as the starting quarterback, Platfoot threw for 1,527 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also ran for 617 yards and seven touchdowns.
WL-S saw junior running back Gabe McGill, senior offensive lineman Wylie Harbour and sophomore linebacker Josh Wilcoxon earn honorable mention spots on the Division VI all-Ohio team.
McGill finished third in the Ohio Heritage Conference in rushing with 1,174 yards in 11 games. He averaged 6.4 yards per carry and ran for 17 touchdowns.
McGill exploded for 267 yards and four touchdowns in a win against Benjamin Logan and he had at least three touchdown runs in at least five games.
Harbour was the leader of a physical WL-S offensive line. He helped WL-S rush for 2,139 yards.
Wilcoxon had a huge impact on the Tigers’ defense this season. He recorded 100 total tackles, with 49 solo stops. He also had one sack, forced two fumbles and recovered a fumble.
Triad was represented on the Division VI all-state team by sophomore running back Awsom Mitchell and senior offensive lineman Michael Warner. Mitchell was named to the third team and Warner was an honorable mention selection.
Mitchell had a sensational season running the football. He ran for 1,897 yards and 23 touchdowns in 11 games. He ran for 319 yards and five TDs in the regular-season finale against West Liberty-Salem and then put up 269 yards and four TDs in a rematch with the Tigers in the first round of the playoffs.
Warner provided a veteran presence on the Cardinals’ offensive line. He paved the way for Triad to run for 2,350 yards.
The remaining all-state teams will be released throughout the week.
