Riverside added another impressive performance to its 2020 resume with a three-set sweep of visiting Benjamin Logan in a Volley For a Cure match Monday.
Riverside won by scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-23.
The Pirates move to 15-1 on the season. It was Riverside’s first win over Ben Logan since 2009.
Ben Logan is now 8-6 on the season.
Lauryn Sanford had a stellar all-around performance to spark the Pirates. She had 12 assists, 10 kills, 14 digs and four blocks.
Also for RHS, Sierra Snow tallied 10 assists, Jenna Woods tallied 13 kills, 16 digs and five blocks, Allison Knight had 24 digs, Olivia Perk had six digs, Jade Copas recorded three blocks, Alaina Snow had three blocks, Hailee Harshbarger had six digs and Alaina Heath had one block.
Molly Vance paced the Raiders with 10 digs, 12 points and three kills, Elliott Bailey had 14 digs, Jordan Sexstone had nine digs, Kylie Frazier recorded 10 digs and six kills, Lynzee Cronkleton had six kills, 15 assists and seven digs, Ryelle Gibson tallied five kills and two blocks and Makenna LeVan was in on four blocks.
Ben Logan won the junior varsity match in straight sets to improve to 14-0.
For the JV Raiders, Lauren Dixon had 19 points, 16 assists and five kills, Brielle Moorhouse had 10 assists and three kills, Macy Matthews tallied seven kills and Georgia Bates had 13 digs.
According to Riverside coach Kerri Meade, $550 was raised to fight cancer during Monday’s event.
Ben Logan plays tonight at home against Bellefontaine. The Pirates are back in action Saturday at Covington.
Williams reaches milestone for Tigers
West Liberty-Salem’s Gabby Williams recorded her 1,000th-career assist during Saturday’s non-league loss to Minster.
Minster won by scores of 25-10, 25-16, 25-23.
WL-S is now 9-3 on the season.
Williams finished with 16 assists in Saturday’s match. She also had eight digs and was 8-8 serving.
In other highlights for the Tigers, Aleah Reed tallied two kills, two digs and two blocks, Ally Gaver had 13 digs and was 17-18 on serves received, Leah Ropp had five kills, 10 digs, two blocks and was 11-12 serving with one ace, Bailey Poppe had 11 kills, three digs, was 7-8 serving and 15-15 on serves received, Chaley Wade had two kills, Olivia Wilcox tallied six digs and was 14-15 on serves received and Naomi McGill was 11-11 serving with one ace.
Minster won the junior varsity match 25-11, 25-11. For the Tigers, Ava Buck had three kills, MaKenna Smith had six digs, Bella Meister was 27-30 setting with five assists, Shae Stoner had three digs and Whitney Strapp had three digs.
BHS freshmen top M’burg
Bellefontaine’s freshman volleyball team beat Mechanicsburg 25-18, 25-21, 25-23 on Monday.
Karys Varner and Alexza Clifton led the Chiefs in passing. Ashlyn Akers had a strong serving night.
