Riverside’s volleyball team ran its impressive record to 19-1 with a pair of recent wins.
The Pirates recorded a 25-15, 25-23, 13-25, 25-17 win over Bradford on Saturday.
Jenna Woods supplied 19 kills and 16 digs and Lauryn Sanford had 18 assists, 13 kills and 14 digs to lead the Pirates.
Also for Riverside, Allison Knight tallied 29 digs, Hailee Harshbarger had seven digs, Sierra Snow had six digs and 17 assists, Olivia Perk had six kills, Jade Copas recorded five kills and seven digs, Alaina Snow had four kills and Alaina Heath added four digs.
In junior varsity action, Riverside beat Bradford 26-24, 25-19. Keianna Notestine led the Pirates with eight kills, Rachel Knight had seven kills and Cassie May tallied 11 assists.
Riverside then cruised past Newton 25-12, 25-16, 25-23 on Monday.
Jenna Woods tallied 16 kills to lead the Pirates attack. She also had six digs. Lauryn Sanford recorded 10 kills, 14 assists and 10 digs, Sierra Snow had 20 assists and eight digs, Allison Knight had 19 digs, Jade Copas recorded four digs and seven kills and Olivia Perk had nine kills.
In the junior varsity match, Riverside won 26-24, 25-17. Trinity Notestine had 10 assists, Keianna Notestine had five kills and Gracie Brownlee led the team in digs.
Riverside hosts Hardin Northern on Thursday for a Northwest Central Conference match. It will be senior night for the Pirates.
Tigers fall to Jets
West Liberty-Salem’s volleyball team couldn’t stay with state-ranked Northeastern on Saturday as the visiting Jets grabbed a four-set victory 17-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-13 in Ohio Heritage Conference play.
The Tigers are now 10-8 overall and 9-5 in the OHC standings.
Bailey Poppe sparked WL-Salem’s attack with 22 kills, 10 digs, one block, was 8-9 serving and 12-15 on serves received, Gabby Williams tallied 30 assists, 14 digs, one kills, one ace, two blocks and was 20-21 serving, Leah Ropp had seven kills, seven digs, one ace, was 11-12 serving and 18-22 serves received, Olivia Wilcox had six digs, was 8-8 serving and 9-10 serves received and Ally Garver added 24 digs, one kill, two aces, was 20-22 serving and 35-36 serves received.
WL-Salem hosts West Jefferson on Tuesday for another OHC contest.
Calvary downs Sidney Christian
Calvary Christian’s volleyball team defeated Sidney Christian 25-11, 11-25, 27-25, 27-25 on Saturday. The Spartans are now 10-7 on the season.
Erin Young led Calvary with 30 points and seven aces, Elisha Carter had 23 digs, Isabel Schmidt had four blocks, Abby Jenkins had nine kills and Emma Patton led the team in assists.
