Phyllis Ann Hartzler, 78, of West Liberty, passed away at 12:42 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 in Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born in Bellefontaine on Aug. 31, 1942, a daughter of the late William G. and Carrie Alice (Strain) Knoff.
On Dec. 3, 1971, Phyllis married David Max Hartzler in Lebanon, Va., and he preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 2007. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Nora McMellon; two brothers, Jim Knoff and Don Knoff; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy Andrew and Bonnie Lucille Hartzler; a sister-in-law, Beverly Knoff; and two brothers-in-law, Charles McMellon and Leland Tuttle.
Phyllis is survived by a sister, Mary Ruth Tuttle of Bellefontaine; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A 1960 graduate of West Liberty-Salem High School, Phyllis retired as treasurer from The People’s Savings & Loan in 2017, following 50 years of loyal service. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in West Liberty.
Pastor Kay Young will officiate a graveside service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, in Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty. In observance of COVID guidelines, guests in attendance are asked to be symptom free, wear a mask, and practice social distancing.
