Patricia L. “Pat” Clay, 87, of East Liberty, passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020, at the OSU/Richard M. Ross Hospital in Columbus.
Born Aug. 7, 1933, in rural Bellefontaine, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Bessie (Neer) Buchenroth. On April 7, 1956, in Bellefontaine, she married her husband of over 49 years, James Clay, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 2005.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ann Moon; her brothers, Robert and Donald Buchenroth and a great grandson, Timothy.
A 1951 graduate of DeGraff High School, she worked as a beautician for over 65 years, owning and operating Pat’s Beauty Nook for 59 of those years. A devoted member of the East Liberty United Methodist Church, she served for many years as treasurer for the church and was a member of the Miriam Circle. Pat was a very active supporter of the East Liberty and Perry Township events and was honored to serve as Grand Marshall of the 4th of July Fireworks in 2005. She was also awarded senior citizen of the year in 2018 for Logan County.
An avid bowler, she participated in the Wednesday and Thursday morning leagues at TP Lanes for many years, was a girl scout leader for many years, enjoyed playing cards with the East Liberty Card Club, was very well known for her peach pies and looked forward to her monthly lunches with her high school classmates. Having a knack for crafts, she loved to crochet, knit sew and work with plastic canvas. Most of all she cherished her time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Jamie (Dave) Miller of Bellefontaine and Lori Young of Zanesfield; grandchildren, Aaron (Hollie Crooks) Miller, Ryan Miller, Kassie (Jon) Larsen, Krista (Aaron) Blakely, Kyler Young, Tristan Miller, Kallie Young and her great grandchildren, Taydin, Carson, Claira, Cahne, Joanna, James, Evelyn, Urijah and Journey.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, at Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel, 222 W. Center St., West Mansfield. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at the East Liberty United Methodist Church, 3293 Main St., East Liberty. Covid precautions will be observed at the funeral home and the church. Burial will follow at the East Liberty Cemetery.
