Driver Tollie Hicks, 52, and passenger Shannon Hicks, 52, both of New Bremen, each were charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance related to a traffic stop Friday evening.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department conducted the stop about 6:05 p.m. for a speed violation on State Route 235 near County Road 91.
As officers approached the vehicle, a white substance was observed being thrown out of the vehicle by the occupants. Contact was made with the driver and the odor of raw marijuana was observed coming from the vehicle.
Officers asked the driver to exit the vehicle and a white prescription pill was observed on the seat.
A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. The white prescription pill on the seat was identified as hydrocodone, a scheduled II controlled substance. Officers located six more hydrocodone prescription pills in the grass, where officers observed the white substance being thrown from the vehicle.
Tollie admitted to throwing the hydrocodone from the vehicle. A large amount of U.S. currency also was located and taken as evidence.
Neither of the defendants had a prescription for the hydrocodone, officers said. Both occupants were both taken into custody and lodged in the Logan County Jail. Tollie also was charged with tampering with evidence.
