Nicole Engler, 45, of Lakeview, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was cited for a stop sign violation as a result of a two-vehicle crash shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday.
Officers of the Russells Point Police Department report Engler and the other driver, Jack Lane, 49, of Lebanon, each were transported by Indian Lake EMS and Huntsville EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital following the crash.
Officers said Lane was operating an eastbound car on U.S. Route 33 near west Wilgus Drive when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle operated by Engler.
Engler reportedly failed to stop for the stop sign on west Wilgus Drive and struck the car, causing both vehicles to slide off the roadway. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.
Responding officers noted several open containers of alcohol inside Engler’s vehicle. She reportedly showed signs of impairment and refused to answer any questions and cursed at officers. Officers said she soon lost consciousness.
Engler refused a urine test at the hospital. She has a prior OVI conviction from 2016, officers report.
Additional charges are pending. The Logan County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted at the scene.
