David M. Lane, 32, of 4045 County Road 12, Bellefontaine, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs as a result of a crash about 12:40 a.m. Sunday.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report he was operating a northbound car on Township Road 95 just south of U.S. Route 33 when he went left of center and continued across the opposite lane of travel into the ditch. His vehicle sustained light damage to the front right fender.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they reported that the driver, Lane, was asleep at the wheel of the vehicle that was in the ditch. He also was wearing his seat belt, deputies said.
Deputies were able to wake up the defendant and they observed the odor of alcohol inside the vehicle. An open can of beer also was observed in the center console.
When Lane was asked to exit the vehicle, deputies observed that he displayed signs of intoxication. He bottle of prescription medication was also located in his pocket, which deputies later determined to be a schedule II drug.
He refused to submit to field sobriety tests and at the Logan County Jail, the defendant refused to submit to a chemical test as well. He was released to a sober driver.
A report has been forwarded to the Logan County Common Pleas Court for review of charges for possession of a controlled substance, open container in a motor vehicle and failure to control.
• Joyce A. Yoder, 71, of 529 Newford Drive, Bellefontaine, also was charged with OVI as a result of a traffic stop early Saturday morning.
Deputies were dispatched about 12:25 a.m. to the area of U.S. 33 and U.S. Route 68 on a report of a vehicle traveling the wrong way on U.S. 33. The traffic stop was initiated at U.S. 33 and County Road 10.
During the stop, deputies noticed that Yoder displayed signs of intoxication and she said she had consumed wine earlier that evening.
She submitted to field sobriety tests and was transported to the jail, where she submitted to a chemical test, with a result of 0.155 blood alcohol content. Yoder also was cited for driving on the wrong side of the roadway and was released to a sober party.
• Perry O. Mitchell, 66, of 6515 Township Road 110, Rushsylvania, was charged with having physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs during an incident Friday evening.
Deputies on patrol about 9:50 p.m. in the area of State Route 273 and County Road 49 observed a vehicle partially in the ditch with its headlights activated. When they stopped to check on the driver, they found Mitchell slumped over in the driver’s seat.
Deputies said the vehicle’s engine was running and when they went to turn off the ignition, Mitchell regained consciousness. While speaking to deputies, they noticed that his speech was slurred.
He was transported by squad to Mary Rutan Hospital and reportedly was uncooperative with EMS personnel and with medical staff at the hospital. The defendant refused to submit to chemical testing. He was issued the summons.
