Taylor Flores, 32, of Highland, Ind., was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs related to a traffic incident Monday afternoon.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department on patrol about 5:45 p.m. in the area of Main Street near McDonald’s observed a silver Pontiac make an abrupt turn, failing to use a signal, and then pulling into a parking spot, striking a light post barrier.
Officers approached the driver’s side of the vehicle, trying to make contact with the driver, who would not roll down the window. Officers observed an open container of beer sitting in the cupholder next to the driver.
Then officers opened up the driver’s door and had the driver, Flores exit the vehicle.
Officers observed that the defendant was unsteady on his feet and he had a heavy odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his person and slurred speech.
Flores was asked where he was coming from and was so impaired he did not even know where he was at, officers said. He also refused to submit to field sobriety testing.
Flores was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail, where he refused to provide a breath sample.
He also was cited for OVI refusal and failure to use a turn signal.
