The operator of a boat that took on water and capsized Friday, April 26, has been issued a citation from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Parks and Watercraft.
Shawn Vogel of Leipsic was cited for failure to control his vessel as a result of the incident.
Vogel, Jarod Kimmel and three-year-old Jayden Kimmel both of Ottawa, were fishing in a 16-foot Tracker boat about 5:45 p.m. Friday near Lakeview Harbor when the watercraft was overcome by high waves, which killed the engine and left the boaters stranded.
Soon after, the boat capsized and a dive and rescue team from the Indian Joint Fire District pulled the boaters from the lake.
Indian Lake EMS transported Jayden Kimmel to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment from the frigid waters. He was released shortly thereafter.
No one else was injured.
