Voters in the village of Russells Point and the West Liberty-Salem School District are the only Logan County voters who will see issues on Tuesday’s ballot.
In Russells Point, the police department is returning to voters with a 3-mill request that would raise $91,000 for police protection. The issue has been on the ballot several times in recent years and has only narrowly been voted down in most cases. It failed by just five votes, 182-177, in November.
West Liberty-Salem voters will see a three-year renewal of the 1 percent income tax that generates about $1.3 million a year for the school district.
According to a five-year projection, administrators estimate in the absence of the income tax or other revenue stream, the district will see an $888,516 shortfall in the school’s general fund by 2019, and a deficit in excess of $3.8 million by 2020.
The income tax was first approved in 1992 and has been renewed seven times since.
The issues will be available to voters who select Democrat or Republican ballots as well as those who declare independent.
The Logan County Board of Elections meets at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 15, for election day and absentee ballot processing. Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. Tuesday through 7:30 p.m.
