Ohio Hi-Point Career Center hosts a building open house and ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, to unveil the large-scale renovation and construction project at the 2280 State Route 540, Bellefontaine, campus.
Students, families, and community members are invited to tour campus, hear from students enrolled in the career programs, and discover how Ohio Hi-Point is innovating education while engaging businesses and impacting the local community.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 4 p.m., with building tours to follow.
May 8, 2018, voters approved Ohio Hi-Point’s 0.6-mill permanent improvement levy for this building project. The issue was passed after a collective vote was counted from all 14 partner high school districts in the five counties Ohio Hi-Point serves.
“This building renovation and construction project was made possible by the support of the community,” officials said. “This is your building; experience the hands-on education students are receiving to empower their futures.”
Community members can see the new building addition, which houses Ohio Hi-Point’s state-of-the-art restaurant and salon as well as the expanded healthcare and exercise science spaces.
The tour will also highlight the newly renovated and expanded graphic and media arts lab, remodeled automotive, diesel, welding, criminal justice, construction, HVAC, engineering, and education academy labs. Community members can also explore Ohio Hi-Point’s academic wing and the renovated classrooms, collaborative spaces, and common spaces.
After the ribbon cutting and building tours, prospective students and family members are encouraged to visit campus between 5 to 7:30 p.m. to talk one-on-one with instructors and students about their educational options, including Ohio Hi-Point’s career pathways, OHP’s work-based learning program, college credit options, and more.
Prospective students can also be entered to win a PlayStation5.
Ohio Hi-Point broke ground on the construction/renovation building project Feb. 4, 2021. During the December 2020 Board of Education meeting, the board approved a contract with Monarch Construction (based in Cincinnati) to complete the district’s renovation building project.
In addition. LeVan’s Excavating, Inc. was the general contractor for the construction entrance drive project. The new entry drive leads to the new main entrance of the high school, making it easier for students and visitors to identify the main entrance.
