Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department assisted Lima police with a Wednesday apprehension of a man wanted in a gang-related shooting.
Hezekiah M. Williams, 21, of Lima, was tracked down by Lima detectives to 813 Heritage Court, Apt. 46, and the detectives requested the help of local officers, including Bellefontaine’s canine unit.
Around 4:10 p.m., law enforcement converged on the apartment but Williams refused to exit. The door was eventually opened and the suspect was observed inside.
Bellefontaine’s canine handler issued warnings that he would release his dog for a felony apprehension and that Williams risked being bit if he did not surrender.
Williams complied and was taken into custody on warrants for participating in a criminal gang with a firearm specification and felonious assault with a repeat specification.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Parked SUV target of theft
James Patton of Belle Center reported Wednesday morning that a catalytic converter was cut from his sport utility vehicle while parked Tuesday evening at Calvary Baptist Church, 1140 Rush Ave.
His daughter had left the SUV in the lot while attending an away volleyball game. She returned to the vehicle around 9:30 p.m. and noticed a loud exhaust sound when she started the vehicle. She left the SUV parked rather than drive it home.
When Patton checked it the next morning, he discovered the theft.
