David J. Williams, 42, of 214 Pratt St., Apt. 6, was charged Friday with aggravated menacing and persistent disorderly conduct.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were sent at 1:25 a.m. to the area on a report of a fight outside.
Williams was found in the middle of the street and detained. He was heavily intoxicated, officers report.
A neighbor, Donald Scott, told officers Williams had been causing issues with neighbors for several hours before Scott approached the suspect on their shared porch and asked, “What the … is going on tonight, David?”
Williams was reportedly angered by the question, went into his apartment and returned to the porch with a knife. He allegedly threatened Scott and took a step toward Scott wielding the knife. Scott, fearing injury, grabbed a chair and struck Williams with it.
Justin Kieffer also said Williams was armed with a knife until he was struck with a chair. Williams returned to his residence briefly and came back without the knife.
He then attacked Kieffer, striking him several times in the face. Kieffer had visible injuries but did not want to press charges.
Williams was uncooperative with officers and was arrested for transport to the Logan County Jail. There, he was placed in a restraint chair.
