James E. “Jim” Schwierking, 76, of Urbana, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018, in Vancrest of Urbana.
He was born June 6, 1941, in Clark County and was a 1959 graduate of Christianburg-Jackson High School.
Jim was drafted into the United States Army in February 1966 and was promoted to captain in January 1969. He proudly served his country earn-
ing the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Award, two Overseas Services Bars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry.
Jim retired after 30 years with the United Telephone Company. He enjoyed farming, boating and riding his motorcycle, but most of all, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rosetta “Rose” Baker Schwierking; his daughters, Jamie Schwierking and Heidi (Chad) Pitcock; his sons, Jim (Cynthia) Schwierking Jr., Jonathan (Tammy) Schwierking and Scott Huffman; his grandchildren, Benjamin, Asa, Maggie, Carmen, Eden and Dominic; his stepgrandchildren, Kailyn, Mason, Alexis, Bryant, Autumn, Ember and Zarcara; his sisters, Mary Grimm and Lois Davis; his brother, Joseph (Steffani) Schwierking; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Alice Edwards Schwierking; his brothers, Alfred Jr. and Paul Schwierking; and his sister, Joanna Aper.
Visitation begins at 4 p.m. and funeral services at 6 p.m. Friday, May 25, in Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana, with Chaplain Andal Gooden presiding. Military honors will be provided by the Pearce Kerns American Legion Post 120. Burial will be in the Casstown Cemetery at a later date.
