Roger Wilford Overs, 79, of Roundhead, passed away early Thursday morning, Jan. 11, 2018, at his home.
Roger was born June 12, 1938, in Urbana, a son of the late Norman and Emily Shaffer Overs. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly; a sister, Doris Kill; and a half-sister, Thelma Wilkins.
Roger married Mary Jo “Jodi” White on June 4, 1960, at the Indian Lake Community Church in Russells Point, and she survives. He is also survived by their three children, Kim (Brad) Pearson of Belle Center, Roger (Speed) Overs of Lima and Cheryl (Kenny) Howard of Kenton; five grandchildren, Alicia (Brad) Stafford, Tiffany (Troy) Hughes, Tyler Overs, Ashley Overs and Justin Harsh, four great-grandchildren, Maci and Mya Stafford, Airianna Hughes and Klayton Overs, three sisters, Katherine (Ned) Davis, Dorothy Harrison and Jeannie Culp, four brothers, Bob, Paul, Bill and Joe; and several nieces and nephews.
Roger was a 1956 graduate of Roundhead High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Roger retired from Rockwell International after 29 years. He then worked for McDonald Township for 17 years retiring in 2017. Roger was very community minded, he was a life member of the Roundhead Volunteer Fire Department and EMT ambulance driver. He also served on the Roundhead- McDonald Park Board from 2002 to 2016, and coached Little League and Pony League baseball and girls youth softball.
Pastor Kenny Van Hoose begins funeral services at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, where visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan 15. Burial is in Roundhead Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given in his name to the Roundhead Volunteer Fire Department.
