Billy Joe Moore, 81, of West Liberty, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2015, in his home, with his loving family by his side.
He was born Dec. 11, 1933, in Louisa, Ky., a son of the late Thomas and Rosa Hensley Moore. He also was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Dana Woodruff; an infant grandson; great-grandson, Evan Crabtree; brothers, David and Arnold (Ruth) Moore; sister, Madaline (Jack) Blackburn; brother-in-law, Dick Foor; and nephew, Paul Foor.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara Collier Moore; his children, Sheryl (Michael) Woodruff, Nancy (Duffy) Moseley, William (Gayle) Moore and Alan (Bobbie) Moore; his grandchildren, Brandy (Bob) Lanier, Michael (Chrissy) Moore, Steven (Leah) Woodruff, Deanna (John) Sikora, Kelly (Jeremy) Willetts, Jonni Tomlin, Adam Crooks and Amanda (Jason) Ramsey; 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Betty (Jim) Wyatt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Billy Joe served his country in the United States Army. He worked as a mechanic for more than 40 years. He retired from Stapleton Chrysler Plymouth in 1998, and had previously been employed by Brandeberry Motors and Trenor Motors.
He was a Christian and a member of the Union Chapel Community Church of West Liberty. He sang Southern gospel music and played the pedal steel guitar. He loved spending time with family and friends. His favorite hobbies were fishing, golf and do-it-yourself projects.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, and one hour prior to a funeral at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 19, in Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana, officiated by Pastor Jeremy Sarver. Burial follows in Kingscreek Cemetery, Kingscreek, with military honors by American Legion Pearce-Kerns Post 120.
