Robert S. Stemble, 88, of Lewistown, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born March 28, 1926, in Champaign County, a son of the late Dewey F. and Glenna Mae Hupp Stemble. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Akey.
On July 5, 1949, he married the former Betty Littlejohn in Covington, Ky., and she survives along with a daughter, Debra (Ed) Pulfer of Belle Center; sons, John (Pamela) Stemble of Lewistown and Douglas A. (Patricia) Stemble of Rushsylvania; grandchildren, Chad Pulfer, Brad Pulfer, Melissa Pulfer, Kelly Stemble and Kale Stemble; two great-grandchildren, Rylee and Reagan Pulfer; a niece, Kay Akey-Creech of Montana; and a special buddy, Bryan Fullerton.
Bob was a life-long farmer and past owner and operator of Belle Center Food & Storage and Stemble’s Meats from 1962 to 1991.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Lewistown-Trinity United Methodist Church.
A 1944 graduate of West Liberty High School, he loved the Cincinnati Reds and enjoyed OSU basketball and “wintering” in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was a member of the Willard Stout Post 266 of the American Legion in Belle Center.
John “Pete” Brown conducts a funeral at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, where calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19. Burial is in Oakdale Cemetery, Urbana, with military honors by the Logan County Honor Guard.
