Helen Louise Watkins, 87, of Minster, formerly of Sidney, passed away Sunday evening, Feb. 1, 2015, at her home.
She was born in Quincy on Nov. 7, 1927, a daughter of the late Alonzo and Lena Flora Ward. She was preceded in death by one son, Paul Edward Watkins; one brother, Cecil Ward; and one sister, Irene Spangler.
On Dec. 28, 1944, she married Wright Watkins, who preceded her in death March 27, 1983.
She is survived by six children, Philip (Jayne) Watkins and Nancy (Chuck) Casey, both of Sidney, Ruth (James) Harris of DeGraff and Patsy (fiancé Bob Kendall) Watkins, Jenny (Henry) Sanchez and Carl (Teresa) Watkins, all of Minster; one sister, Maxine Clark of DeGraff; three brothers, Harold Ward of Minster, Richard (Janice) Ward of Maplewood and Dale (Brenice) Ward of Quincy; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Watkins was a homemaker and volunteered more than 2,000 hours at Wilson Memorial Hospital. She was a lifetime member of the Compromise Grange, and was an avid card player.
She enjoyed fishing with sisters, brothers and nieces, and camping with family and friends. She loved her Ohio State basketball games, as well as watching The University of Dayton basketball team and the Cincinnati Reds. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
Pastor Jack Chalk officiates a funeral at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney, where visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Burial is at Greenwood Union Cemetery, DeGraff.
