Charles W. Wedel, 89 of Middleburg, died at 1:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at Memorial Gables, Marysville.
He was born at home in Foraker on May 10, 1925, to the late Henry and Matilda Schaefer Wedel.
On June 6, 1958, he married Annie F. Oller and she survives, along with two sons, Lewis (Connie) Meddles and Bill W. Wedel; a daughter, Becky (Tom) Ratliff; one granddaughter; four grandsons; four great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; one great-great-grandson; a sister, Margret Linke; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Paul Wedel; sister, Elizabeth Purcell; and an infant daughter, Matilda.
Charles served his country proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps 5th Engineer, surviving World War II and the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Bellefontaine VFW Post 1080, the Logan County Honor Guard and was also a member of various country western bands.
Charles retired from Rockwell after 30 years of service and then worked for TRC for seven years.
Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at Schindewolf-Stout-Crates Funeral Home, Kenton, where Pastor Kenneth Green officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2. Burial follows in Grove Cemetery, with full military rites by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
