Benjamin A. Owen, 78, of Huntsville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at Springfield Medical Center.
Ben was born in Dayton on Nov. 30, 1936, to the late George and Elizabeth Husti Owen.
On Sept. 8, 1990, he married Verna E. Coyer Overs in Reno, Nev., and she preceded him in death July 29, 2014. He also was preceded in death by a son, Michael Owen.
He is survived by three daughters, Vicki (Gary Stevens) Perkins of Springfield, and Kathi (Chuck) Salyers and Lori (Tim) McGrath, both of Dayton; a stepson, Jeffrey (Beth) Overs of DeGraff; 12 grandchildren, Stacy Lanning, Mandy Burns, Michael Perkins, Carly Perkins, Carrie Chapman, Sarah Hyder, Scott Hyder, Leah Salyers, Michelle McGrath, Rebecca Glass, Rachael Overs and Emily Overs; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Amy Garrett of Fairfield, Calif., and Rose Mensch of Indian Lake.
Ben attended Roosevelt High School in Dayton and retired from HR Rieck and Sons in Dayton after 40 years. Ben was a member of the Indian Lake Moose 1533, Indian Lake Eagles 3615, and Sons of AMVETS 39, all in Lakeview.
He was an avid OSU Buckeyes football fan and Jeff Gordon fan. He enjoyed watching football and NASCAR, boating and fishing. He loved riding his lawn mower as the groundskeeper for 14 years at Lake Ridge Resorts.
Visitation is one hour prior to a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview. Burial is in Huntsville Cemetery.
