Beatrice M. Young, 102, of Ridgeway, passed away at 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Mary Rutan Hospital.

She was born in Wyandot County on Dec. 27, 1911, to the late George and Susan Altvater Ulrich.

On May 17, 1941, she married Cecil Young and he preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1997. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Young; a great-grandson, Tate Streets; four sisters, Irene Tomlin, Mildred Riggen, her twin sister, Bernice Gatchell and sister, Helen Terrill; and five brothers, Frederick, Robert, Paul, Wilbur and Woodrow Ulrich.

Beatrice is survived by her sons, Ronald Young of Tipp City and Donald Young of Ridgeway, Ohio; her three grandchildren, Shauna (Jeremy) Streets of Ridgeway, Scott (Donna) Young of Marysville and Erica (Devin) Elsasser of Ridgeway; her great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jayden Streets, Loryn and Laney Elsasser and Gage Church; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Beatrice was a graduate of Ridgeway High School and Bowling Green State University. She taught in the Ridgeway and Ridgemont school districts for 35 years. She was a member of the Ridgeway United Methodist Church. She served as secretary of the Council of Churches for many years and was a trustee on the Ridgeway Library Board for several years.

Beatrice was active in the Order of Eastern Star No. 364, a charter member of Kappa Chapter Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Ohio and Hardin County Retired Teachers Associations. She was a volunteer at Hardin Memorial Hospital and Hospital Guild, as well as a poll worker for many elections.

In 1985, Beatrice was the grand marshal at the Good Ole Days Festival in Ridgeway. In 2009, she was honored by the Ridgeway-Ridgemont Alumni for more than 80 years service to the community.

Beatrice was an avid reader. She liked to crochet, work puzzles, travel, visit friends, and bake cookies. But most of all, she loved her family and even helped babysit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. Beatrice loved being a grandma and working in her garden with her flowers.

The Rev J. Mac Geissinger officiates a funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church of Ridgeway. Visitation is from 2:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Schindewolf-Stout-Crates Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Burial is in Grove Cemetery, Kenton.
