Roger Layton, 85, of Lima, entered the presence of the Lord at 12:23 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney.
He was born March 27, 1934, in Lima to John William and Viola Bradford Layton, who preceded him in death. On Oct. 22, 1955, he married Darlene Lame and she preceded him in death Sept. 1, 2017.
Roger worked for the Erie and Conrail Railroad for 44 years. He was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church of Lima and a former member at Westminster United Methodist Church where he was a youth counselor. He served as 4-H superintendent of the Rabbit Barn at the Allen CountyFair for 26 years, was a member of the Lima Rabbit Breeders Association, Gladiola Society Flower Club and other flower organizations. He had prize-winning garden with day lilies, bees and gladiolas, and he raised rabbits.
Survivors include three daughters, Cindy (Dave) Koester of Piqua, Darla (Scott) Kuyawa of Kewadin, Mich., and Amy (Ken) Neterer of Noblesville, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Brandon (Jaclyn) Koester, Ashlee (Josh) Blanke, Lindsey (Zach) Hemmert, Shelby Kuyawa, Madison (Hunter) Downing, Sophia Kuyawa, Taylor Neterer and Grant Neterer; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack E. Layton of Madras, Ore.; and a sister, Patricia Hullinger of St. Paris.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Layton and John D. Layton; and two sisters, Marylan Santilli and Linda Courson.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services Eastside Chapel, where the funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday, July 12, following calling an hour prior.
The Rev. Teresa Wenrick officiates and burial follows in Memorial Park Cemetery.
