John A. “Jack” Elliott, 88, of Bellefontaine, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, at Green Hills Community.
John was born April 26, 1930, in Kenton to the late Ommert and Treva Resch Elliott.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma L. Bushong Smith, whom he married June 26, 1988, at the Pickrelltown Church.
John was member of Goshen Friends Church for many years. He served in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Korean War from 1951 to1957. He was a 4-H adviser for a number of years. He worked at Montgomery Ward in Bellefontaine and retired from International Harvester in Springfield. John was a cancer survivor since 1983. He enjoyed working in his gardens, landscaping, fishing, reading and flowers. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, raising dogs and the great outdoors. John will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, Angi (Clark) Sheeley, Dale (Tracy) Smith, Marty (Jenn) Smith, Kim Elliott, Charnell Elliott and Alan Elliott; grandchildren, Brooke (Calvin) Stannard, Kindra (Brandon) Murphy, Traiye (Danielle) Smith, Tia (Carlos) Campbell, Emily (Trevor) Ward, Matt Smith, Luke Smith, Trevor Elliott, Taylor Elliott, Cassondra (Logan Keizer) Coil, Chance (Jessica Baughman) Coil and Heath Elliott; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by sisters, Carol Kenipe and Jean Smith.
A memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at Jennings Farley & Seeley Funeral Home & Crematory, following visitation that begins at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
