Gerald L. “Jerry” Besett, 81, of Bellefontaine, passed away at 8:37 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019, at his residence. He was born in Minonk, Ill., on June 4, 1937, to the late Orville and Selma Hopper Besett.
On Dec. 1, 1960, he married Bonnie Fisher Besett and she preceded him in death Jan. 28, 1991. He also was preceded in death by siblings, Carol and Duane.
He is survived by his children, Gerri B. (David) Welch of West Mansfield, Nikki L. (Jon) Yoesting of Bellefontaine, Lorri M. Besett and April D. (James) Cermak, both of Columbus, and Paul (Christie) Besett of Finksburg, Md.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Lee Besett.
Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked as a mechanic and also a safety officer for Thomas & Marker Construction. Jerry was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Bellefontaine. He enjoyed drinking coffee with his old work friends at “Thursday Morning Breakfast Club.” Jerry was a motorcycle enthusiast, enjoyed watching old westerns and was a master mechanic who could fix anything.
Calling is from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, where Pastor Jeffory Willetts officiates a funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12. Burial follows in the Bellefontaine Cemetery.
