Don R. Mann, 89, of Jackson Center, passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at his home with his loving son by his side.
He was born on Jan. 2, 1929, in Jackson Township, Shelby County, to the late Elmer P. and Mayme M. Rickert Mann. Don married Lois Gerber on Jan. 30, 1949, in Jackson Center and she preceded him in death April 26, 2013. He also was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Bailey Mann; a sister, Betty (Mann) Collins; and a brother, Dale K. Mann.
Don is survived by his son, Jeff (Laurie Honigford) Mann of Sidney; four grandchildren, Tisha (Darrell) Nichols of DeGraff, Clint (Katie) Mann of Jackson Center and Curtis Mann and Jacob Mann, both of Houston, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Alexis and Taylor Nichols, and Ashlin, McKenzie and Carly Mann.
After graduating in 1946 from Jackson Center High School, Don worked for Mann & Son Hardware in Jackson Center. He also worked for 35 years at Westinghouse in Bellefontaine from where he retired. Don also worked many years as the Jackson Center zoning inspector before retiring in 2012.
Don was a lifetime member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Ohio National Guard, Company I148th Infantry Regiment and was honorably discharged on June 22, He was also a member of the Jackson Center American Legion, Sidney Elks, Indian Lake Moose and the Masonic Lodge. Don enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a huge fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The Rev. Dr. Cathi Braasch, STS, will officiate the memorial service at noon Monday, Oct. 15 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Jackson Center, where visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private family burial will be in Glen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Anna Rescue Squad, 203 S. Linden Ave., Anna, OH 45302.
