Mary Lou Godwin, 82, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday evening, Sept. 18, 2018, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
Mary Lou was born in Ridgeway on Feb. 11, 1936, to the late Harold J. and Thelma Watts Rumer.
She married William E. “Bill” Godwin on Nov. 9, 1951, in Huntington, Ind., and he preceded her in death Sept. 19, 2005. Mary Lou was also preceded in death by a son, Bill Godwin; daughter, Debra Thompson; brothers, Lloyd and Richard Rumer; and a sister, Louise DeLaughder.
Mary Lou enjoyed reading. She was the true definition of being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother — she cherished the time spent with all her family.
Mary Lou is survived by her son, Richard (Lori) Godwin of Powell; three grandchildren, Ryan (Nicole) Thompson of Plainfield, Ind., Heather (Troy) Miller of Bellefontaine and Jason (Amy) Godwin of Powell; nine great-grandchildren, Hillary Hernandez, Isaac and Cooper Thompson, Shawn, Daniel, Elizabeth and Mason Miller and Luke and Ben Godwin; a brother, Warren (Norma) Rumer of Bellefontaine; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mary Lou’s life begins at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Bellefontaine First Church of God, 1000 E. Brown Ave., following calling that begins at 2 p.m. Pastor Gary Brown officiates. A private family burial takes place in Hale Cemetery.
