Harold L. Hardin, 91, of Marysville, formerly of Powell, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
A civil engineer, he established and operated HLH and Partners Inc. engineering firm in Columbus.
Through his work with the State of Ohio early in his career, he was especially proud of his engineering designs which included the Ohio State Fair “OHIO” entrance, the Bowling Green State University Library and the Ohio Historical Society building.
A member of the American Society of Civil Engineering, he was a graduate of Lima Shawnee High School and received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The Ohio State University. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He cherished spending time on his farm in Logan County and will always be remembered for enjoying the outdoors with his canine companions.
He was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Lima, to the late Don and Velma Severns Hardin. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Franz; and his siblings, Russell Hardin, Donald Hardin, Irene Trout and Helen Copeland. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce M. McKay Hardin, whom he married April 29, 1956, in Mt. Vernon; his daughter, Cynthia (Scott) Orr of East Liberty; his son, Eric (Nancy) Hardin of East Liberty; a son-in-law, Blaine Franz of Granville; his grandchildren, Chelsey (Scott) Ferguson, Cayla Orr, Catarina Orr, John Hardin, Jenna Hardin, Logan Franz and Levi Franz; his great-granddaughter, Zoie Ferguson; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at Underwood Funeral Home, Marysville, where the family will receive callers beginning at 3 p.m. Sarah Palsma of New Hope Church in Powell officiates. Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at East Liberty Cemetery.
