Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded Saturday morning to a number of reports of vehicle break-ins in the village of West Mansfield, where residents reported cash, spare change, a laptop computer, purses, wallets, cigarettes and other items missing from their vehicles.
Vehicles were entered on Dean Street, Center Street, State Street and Main Street.
During their investigation, deputies found that several of the locked vehicles had been entered by suspect(s) utilizing rocks or bricks to break out windows. Other vehicles had been unlocked and were rummaged through by suspect(s).
One of the theft victims reported a safe containing a large amount of cash was taken from the back seat of his vehicle. He said the safe weighed between 75-100 pounds and would be difficult for one person to lift by themselves.
During the course of the investigation, deputies also received a report about 5 p.m. of a suspicious vehicle parked at 174 Mann St., West Mansfield. A resident reported that the out-of-county vehicle had been parked facing the wrong direction at that location for most of the day and wondered if it was related to the vehicle break-ins.
Deputies found that the vehicle had been stolen out of Wyandot County. The vehicle was towed from the scene and transported to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office impound lot to be processed.
