Slithering into Screen Free Week

ILES Game Night

Indian Lake Elementary School first-grader Carson Stinemetz holds a snake at the final ILES Family Game Night of the year, which also kicked off the school’s Screen Free Week this week that runs through Friday. During the evening event, many staff and students dressed up as their favorite storybook characters, including Disney princesses, Tigger, Captain Underpants, Waldo, Harry Potter, Laura Ingalls Wilder and more. Along with games, crafts, hot dogs, faceprinting, jumping in the bounce house and prizes, this Family Game Night featured a small petting zoo with snakes, a ferret, rabbits and chickens. Organizer Pam Scarpella said the night is all about giving kids alternatives to video games and TV by presenting a variety of activities. She hopes they remember to read, exercise, walk the dog, create art and help their parents all summer instead of spending all their time on devices. Family Game Nights will resume at ILES in the fall. (PHOTO | INDIAN LAKE SCHOOLS)
