The Indian Lake Ohio Hi-Point FFA chapter has donated 133 processed chickens, or 563.5 pounds of food, Friday to Our Daily Bread in Bellefontaine. The meat will divided and dispersed to other Logan County food banks.
The ILHS/OHP FFA received a $4,000 United Way grant this spring to help cover the cost of food and bedding for the birds, along with processing fees.
FFA members Lexi Clem, Allix Cotterman, Jazzlynn Goings, Jarrett Monroe and Nikita Scheifele worked together to keep the birds healthy and growing since school let out.
In addition this fall, FFA members will raise turkey poults. Grant money will also help pay for processing the turkeys. A portion of the birds will be sold, while the rest will be donated to needy families at Thanksgiving.
“A huge thank you for all the people that helped us out throughout the entire process,” ILHS/OHP FFA advisor Tanner Schoen said.
The last 20 broilers will be checked into the Logan County Fair for the students to show.
