     Dollar General has not yet given up trying to build a store in West Liberty.

     And action taken Monday in a regular meeting of the West Liberty Village Council opens the door for a new location where construction possibly could begin by spring.

A pay raise for the fire chief, an agreement to finance a new trash truck and an increase in water and sewer rates were among ordinances approved Monday in a regular meeting of the West Liberty Village Council.

Fire Chief Conrad Hostetler will move from part-time into a full-time position necessitating a pay increase.

Mr. Hostetler previously had approached the finance committee about leaving his day job and entering a full-time role as the fire chief.

“So I can be around during the daytime,” he told council during the meeting.

“We’re having a harder time having guys around during the daytime hours, and one extra body around during the day would make a big difference.”
