MARYSVILLE — Detectives of the Union County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Marysville hotel manager Wednesday relating to allegations that he was forging and cashing payroll checks written to former employees.

Edward B. Littlefield, 47, of 411 Allenby Drive, Marysville, also the address of the Holiday Inn Express hotel where he worked, was charged with three counts of forgery, all fifth-degree felonies, and one count of theft, a fourth-degree felony.

Wednesday, detectives served a search warrant at the Holiday Inn Express to search for records related to an investigation that began in December.

Sheriff’s investigators allege the manager deposited the money from the payroll checks into his personal account. As of this date, the defendant reportedly has stolen at least $9,980.

The investigation is ongoing as other potential victims are being identified.

After serving the search warrant, detectives took Mr. Littlefield into custody, and he was transported to the Tri-County Regional Jail. He was arraigned this morning in Marysville Municipal Court, and his bond was set at $150,000.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by officers from the Marysville Division of Police and agents from the Bureau of Criminal Investigations Cyber and Forensic Crime Units. The Union County Prosecutor’s Office and the Union County Department of Job and Family Services also assisted with the investigation.
