Two women were arrested Wednesday for their parts in the theft of cash from Sam’s Auto Sales, 605 Garfield Ave.
Kaitlyn Skylar Klaas, 23, of 628 Cooper Ave., and Chelsea M. Jenkins, 20, of 10154 W. State Route 47, DeGraff, each was charged with complicity to theft and lodged in the Logan County Jail.
Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report they worked with a named male suspect to distract owner Sam Grago so the male could steal a red money bag from the business. The bag contained a significant amount of money.
The trio first came to the business around 1:30 p.m. and test drove a vehicle for about an hour. They came back at 3:30 p.m. and Ms. Klaas took another vehicle for a test drive.
Ms. Jenkins and the male stayed at the business in the office. Ms. Jenkins asked Mr. Grago for a specific size of tire and the two left the office to look for the tire.
Surveillance video shows the male stealing the money bag. He had earlier observed Kathleen Grago, the owner’s daughter, retrieve it to provide Ms. Klaas with change for a soda machine.
The women were apprehended on foot in the 700 block of Garfield. The male suspect left the car lot with the money separate from the women and he has not been found.
Both claimed they did not know the man well. However, both the Gragos identified the suspect when they were shown a photograph of Ms. Jenkin’s boyfriend.
Officers noted in reports the three have suspected drug problems.
