Jim and Leslie Warne came full circle when they acquired their current property along Ludlow Road some 15 years ago.
Farm kids, Jim grew up on a dairy farm east of West Liberty in Logan County, and Leslie was raised on a farm across the road from The Oaks where they now live.
Their son, Craig, and daughter, Lisa, grew up in the ranch house along Township Road 190 that Jim and Leslie built and called home since they were married in 1972.
They have been named the 2015 Bellefontaine Examiner Farm Family of the Year.
The property is now home to 15 registered Shorthorns that make up their cow/calf operation. The family purchased their first four heifers in 1988 as 4-H projects for Craig and Lisa. Gradually, the herd was transitioned from crossbreds and various registered breeds to all Shorthorn in about 1996.
It has worked out well for them.
“All the females in the herd have been produced here on the farm,” Mr. Warne said.
