Snowmobile operators Denton Plikerd, 34, and David Schroeder, 56, both of Belle Center, each was transported by squad to area hospitals Sunday afternoon after they each slid into a drainage ditch while operating two separate sleds.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report Mr. Plikerd and Mr. Schroeder each was driving on their respective snowmobiles about 2:30 p.m. in a field on the west edge of Belle Center by State Route 273 near County Road 104.

Mr. Plikerd reportedly was just ahead of the other snowmobile operator, and he observed a drainage ditch and was searching for a way to cross the ditch. He drove too close to the edge of the ditch and then slid into the ditch. He was thrown from the snowmobile and injured his shoulder.

Mr. Schroeder said he observed his friend slide into the ditch, but he couldn’t stop in time to avoid the ditch. He also slid into the ditch and injured his leg.

Mr. Plikerd was transported by Huntsville squad to Mary Rutan Hospital, while Mr. Schroeder was transported by BMRT squad to Lima Memorial Health System.

Both snowmobile operators were wearing helmets. No citations were issued.
