Aalana Marie Tate is first baby born in Logan County in 2015
One of Logan County’s newest residents kept her parents guessing this week about when she would make her grand entrance — whether at the end of 2014, or at the start of a whole new year.

Little Aalana Marie Tate was born at 9:33 a.m. Friday, the first child for Danisha Artis of Bellefontaine and Auston Tate of Findlay, and the first baby of the New Year at Mary Rutan Hospital.
It had been a long week for Ms. Artis, 18, who said her water broke Sunday, and she went to the hospital that day, only to be sent home because her labor was not progressing.
After having sporadic contractions during the next several days, the pain became more intense and the contractions more regular on New Year’s Eve. Ms. Artis, Mr. Tate and family packed up and went back to the hospital about 3 a.m. Thursday to finally be admitted.
The first-time mother and 2014 Bellefontaine High School graduate labored most of the day Thursday and Friday morning, and finally 19-inch-long Aalana was born via Caesarean section, weighing 7 pounds 1 ounce.
“I just started crying when they handed her to me,” Ms. Artis said. “I was so happy. I’d waited so long to see her.
“I couldn’t believe it when the nurses told me Thursday that we would likely have the first baby of the New Year. I told them that I thought other people were here having their babies too, but those babies came before the end of the year.”
