Fire destroys farmhouse

UNION COUNTY — Nine fire departments responded to a New Year’s Day fire in western Union County that destroyed a two-story home.

Firefighters with the Liberty Township (Union County) Fire Department were called to Shawn Blevins’ home at 26398 Lunda Road around 5:30 a.m.

Liberty Township Fire Chief Lloyd Segner said the farmhouse was fully engulfed in flames and it took five hours to extinguish the fire.

A family dog woke Mr. Blevins and he was able to go out a bedroom window. The dog perished in the fire.

Mr. Blevins’ two children were not at home at the time.

Chief Segner’s department was assisted by fire departments from Marysville, Allen Township, Richwood Northern Union County, Bokescreek Township, North Lewisburg, Mt. Victory, Perry Township and Leesburg Township. The Union County EMA also responded.
