Man escapes serious injury after accidentally shooting himself in leg


Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to Mary Rutan Hospital about 5:50 p.m. Thursday in reference to a patient who was receiving treatment for a gunshot wound.

They spoke with medical staff and also the patient, Shane R. Kramer, 39, of 1354 E. County Road 113, Rushsylvania.

Mr. Kramer said he had been drinking earlier in the day, and he had been cleaning a firearm at his residence.

He said he was not very familiar with the firearm, and he thought it was completely unloaded. However, in the process of cleaning the gun, it discharged a round into his leg.

He contacted a family member after injuring his leg, and was transported to the hospital, where he was later treated and released. No criminal charges were filed.

Driver cited in C.R. 130 crash

Brandon L. Barker, 19, of Rushsylvania, was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead following a crash about 6:05 p.m. Thursday on County Road 130 at Township Road 218.

Deputies report Robert L. Kissling, 41, of Bellefontaine, was operating a southbound pickup and was attempting a left turn onto T.R. 218 when he was struck from behind by a southbound car operated by Mr. Barker.

The two drivers did not report any injuries, and two passengers in the Barker vehicle reported possible injuries, but were not transported. Damage was disabling to both vehicles.
