Law enforcement are continuing to search today for a suspect who reportedly stole a pickup from Marion County and fled into the rural Bellefontaine area Tuesday evening.
First responders and law enforcement from several area agencies descended upon the area of township roads 181 and 179 around 9 p.m. Tuesday in search of the suspect.
Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report that Union County sheriff’s deputies pursued the suspect, as well as the reportedly stolen black 2009 Ford Ranger to the southern Logan County line.
A short time later, a resident on T.R. 181 reported that an unknown person drove back a long lane on their property, parked a Ford Ranger and took off running into a field.
Upon arrival, authorities positively identified the truck as the same one from the pursuit.
A complete search of the area was initiated.
Deputies checked out buildings in the vicinity on foot. Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department deployed their drone, a canine officer was dispatched and a helicopter from the Ohio State Highway Patrol conducted an aerial search of the area, but the suspect could not be located.
The truck was impounded. There was no known suspect as of late Tuesday night.
