Committee recommends $15,000 bike path contribution

Bellefontaine City Council members will have an opportunity Aug. 13 to vote on a measure to give $15,000 toward chip seal paving of the final section of the Simon Kenton Bike Trail.

Finance Committee members Deb Baker, Kyle Springs and Richard Kurtz voted Tuesday prior to Tuesday’s regular council meeting to present the measure to the council.

City Auditor Fred Brentlinger said the city has about $300,000 in a capital improvements fund that has not been allocated for any projects this year.

“I see this as an economic development project for us,” he said. “Bicyclists will be coming to the area and they will stop in the city to eat and possibly stay overnight.”
