Bellefontaine city employees excavate ground Wednesday at Jack Martin Park along Reservoir Road in preparation to pour a concrete pad at the entrance of a dog park, which is set to open later this spring. In addition to getting the concrete landing set, chain link fence has been delivered, and will be erected soon. The dog park project has been in the planning stages since 2017. The Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District had hoped to have the park opened by late last year, but poor weather hampered those plans. In all, the dog park will encompass over an acre of land for canines to enjoy off-the-leash play. The new dog park was made possible largely through a donation from Mike and Karen Brady. The project has been about a year in the making. In spring 2017, parks board officials began visiting dog parks in Marysville, Dublin, Hilliard and Urbana to come up with plans.
