Area fire departments continue to conduct prescribed burns across Logan County in an effort to reduce the risk of wildfires, maintain native prairies and to provide training opportunities for local firefighters.

Those efforts have been furthered along with a $500 grant from the National Fire Protection Association and the commercial insurance company State Farm awarded today to the Bellefontaine Fire and EMS Department.
The grant application was prepared by Jeremy Keller, rural operations coordinator for Bellefontaine Fire and EMS. Keller has also helped organize a series of recent controlled burns across public and private properties throughout Logan County.
