Steven T. McMillen, 35, of 1600 S. Detroit St., Apt. 62, was charged Wednesday with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for no safety belt, a marked lanes violation and a stop bar violation after a 10:25 p.m. stop on Detroit Street just south of Carter Avenue.
An officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol began following McMillen after noticing the loud exhaust volume of the motorist’s pickup truck on Troy Road south of Columbus Avenue.
While following onto Plumvalley Street and then east on Carter, the officer observed the pickup travel across the center line and then well past a stop bar at Carter and Detroit.
A stop was initiated and the officer reported McMillen’s speech was slurred and there was an odor of alcohol detected coming from the driver.
Field sobriety tests indicated he was impaired by alcohol. He declined to provide a breathalyzer sample.
Officers noted he was convicted OVI from prior stops in 2000 and twice in 2009.
