Hunter Burris, 27, of Bellefontaine, was charged with possession of drug abuse instruments during a traffic stop Wednesday evening.
Officers of the Washington Township PoliceDepartment on patrol about 8:40 p.m. in the area of U.S. Route 33 and State Route 708 spotted a vehicle traveling in and out of the marked lanes of travel.
Officers initiated the stop and made contact with Burris. He was asked to exit the vehicle, and officers discovered an orange pill bottle inside the pocket of his hooded sweatshirt, which thedefendant stated contained suboxone that wasprescribed to him.
Officers also discovered five white pills in a cigarette wrapper in the bottom of the pill bottle.
Two of the pills inside the cigarette wrapper werea schedule IV controlled substance that was not suboxone.
Burris was then placed in the back of the patrol car while officers conducted a search ofthe vehicle, which revealed three syringes. Burrisdenied knowing anything about the syringes. Healso advised officers that a family member gavehim the five white pills.
The defendant is currently on probation for aprevious drug charge, officers said. He wasarrested and transported to the Logan CountyJail and he received a warning for the markedlanes violation..
The pills will be sent to Bureau of CriminalInvestigation lab for further testing. Othercharges could be filed depending on the outcomeof lab testing.
