Ag grant will pay to build chicken coop on campus
Purchase of two 78-passenger school buses were approved Monday in a regular meeting of the Indian Lake Schools’ board. Including trade-ins, the buses will cost $91,804.
Also accepted during the meeting was a $7,350 Ag Impact Grant from the Logan County Farm Bureau for the purpose of erecting a 24- by 26-foot chicken coop hoop building and equipment necessary to raise fowl on the Indian Lake campus.
The “chick-inn hutch” will, “let us expand and have animals year round here at Indian Lake’s campus. So the kids that are in ag classes or animal science classes will get that true, hands-on learning opportunity that they could not get in any other classroom setting,” said Tanner Schoen, Indian Lake ag instructor.
Last summer, a few students raised chickens in the ag shop at Indian Lake, and this grant allocation will allow more students to participate in that program.
