Steven L. Burk, 50, of 134 N. Detroit St., was charged Saturday with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and cited for an improper turn, a marked lanes violation, speeding and no safety belt.
Around 11:40 p.m., an officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol observed a sport utility vehicle eastbound on Sandusky Avenue near Detroit Street traveling at speeds in excess of the 25 mph speed limit. The officer turned and followed the SUV south on Detroit to eastbound on Chillicothe Avenue, making a wide turn that traveled into marked parking spaces along the street.
A traffic stop was initiated east of Main Street. Upon contact with Burk, the officer detected an odor of alcohol. He also had difficulty providing his license and insurance information. Field sobriety tests indicated he was impaired by alcohol. His breathalyzer sample was 0.205.
