Jennifer Sudhoff of Spencerville is to serve as Benjamin Logan Local School District’s interim treasurer.
Sudhoff currently serves as Lima City Schools’s full-time assistant treasurer, and has been in that position five years.
The Benjamin Logan Local School District’s Board of Education met in special session Sunday afternoon to select someone to fill the treasurer’s seat following the resignation of Treasurer Mandy France, effective end of business Feb. 4.
Sudhoff will be assisting in the evening at Benjamin Logan while the board decides what it is going to do about the treasurer position moving forward, Sudhoff said.
“I’ll be helping out to keep things running,” she said.
Sudhoff is to make $75 per hour with an unspecified amount of hours she will work per week.
“I’m just on a week-by-week basis,” she said.
Sudhoff estimated she will remain as interim treasurer for about four to six weeks until the board comes to a more “formalized decision.”
The treasurer position has not yet been posted.
Superintendent Dave Harmon said he doesn’t know if or when the permanent treasurer position will be posted as the board will be evaluating Sudhoff during her time in her interim role.
“There’s been no promise (to Sudhoff) for a full-time spot,” he explained.
Harmon said the board learned about Sudhoff after a board member reached out to The Ohio Association of School Business Officials and its director provided Sudhoff’s name and credentials.
Harmon said Sudhoff is bringing some guidance to the board as to how to better streamline the district’s payroll.
In addition to selecting Sudhoff for the interim treasurer seat during the special meeting, the board agreed to hire Western Ohio Computer Organization of Sidney to perform payroll services at the rate of $60 per hour.
After Assistant Treasurer Kristina Vogel left the district in November, the district has been utilizing the services of the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center to handle its payroll, working in an interim capacity.
Harmon said those working on Benjamin Logan’s payroll were not able to continue hence the board’s decision to employ WOCO.
